The "Assassin's Creed" franchise has gone through quite a lot over the years, as it originally started out as a very popular title, followed by several successful sequels, but the overall quality of the development work seems to have gone down at some point. Most recently, "Assassin's Creed: Unity" came out to some very negative reception, and many were left wondering if the franchise is even worth continuing at this point.
However, there definitely does seem to be a lot of potential left in the name, and as long as Ubisoft pull themselves together and organize their development a bit more thoughtfully, they should be able to revive the public's interest in the series. This is exactly what they seem to plan on doing as well, as "Assassin's Creed: Victory" is reportedly being prepared with a very clear goal in mind – bring people back to the title.
What can the next "Assassin's Creed" game do to make sure that people get hyped up about it like they were for the old titles? Quite a lot, actually – even a few minor changes to the basic premise of the gameplay could result in a very different game, enough to keep players interested and asking for more. At this point, Ubisoft clearly do need to make a few changes in order to keep things fresh though.
That's probably what motivated them to come up with the setting for "Assassin's Creed: Victory", which will place the game in a new environment, and hopefully breathe some fresh air into the franchise. Many of the series' fans have been optimistic when they saw the leaked materials, and even though Ubisoft were disappointed that they were forced to reveal the game earlier than planned, it actually seemed to work in their favor as the leak generated a lot of hype about "Assassin's Creed: Victory".
There are reports allegedly coming from within the studio, saying that Ubisoft are planning to slow down the development of the franchise a bit, and they will focus on "Victory" as much as possible for the time being. This apparently means that we won't see another "Assassin's Creed" game for some time after "Victory" comes out, but this is by no means a bad thing.
In fact, it's what many players have been asking for lately, as it will not only give the studio more time to plan their next game more carefully, but it should also make things more relaxed for the developers right now. As long as there's no pressure to get started on the next installment in the franchise, developers should be able to focus on polishing and perfecting the current game as much as possible.
